[LEARFIELD] (Skelton Township, MN) — A man and woman are hospitalized with burns after trying to rescue their animals from a barn fire near Barnum in Carlton County. The sheriff’s office says crews from six area fire departments battled the flames Saturday night, but the barn is a total loss. Deputies say the property owners suffered smoke inhalation and burns attempting to get animals out. They were taken to the Moose Lake hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Several goats and rabbits died in the fire. Investigators do not believe it was suspicious, however the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
