LaMoine “Tuffy” Meyer, age 90 of Tracy, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 12, 2020 surrounded by his family at Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 18 at the Tracy Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at the Tracy Area Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday. SMSU Farm Outlook & Education seminar rescheduled for next week

MARSHALL (KMHL) – Southwest Minnesota State University has rescheduled the Farm Outlook & Education Seminar that was postponed by the nasty weather earlier this week. SMSU says the outlook seminar will now be held Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. in the SMSU Conference Center Ballroom. The seminar is used as a scholarship fundraiser for students in SMSU’s agriculture programs.

Blizzard and frigid cold expected in southwest Minnesota

MARSHALL (KMHL) – The majority of schools in the area are closed for the day – thanks to a blizzard. The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning through 6 p.m. tonight. Forecasters are calling for wind gusts to 40 miles per hour. They say plan on slippery road conditions and areas of blowing and drifting snow that could significantly reduce visibility for daytime travel and the evening commute. Lamberton woman accused of animal abuse sentenced in Redwood County

LAMBERTON (KMHL) – A Lamberton woman accused of abuse and neglect of dozens of animals was sentenced last week in Redwood County. Kimberly Robinson, 57, of Lamberton, was sentenced to 30 days in jail, but Judge Michelle Dietrich stayed the jail time for one year. Robinson will pay $185 in fines – she will also serve one year of supervised probation on a condition that she doesn’t own any animals. Police seized 26 dogs, 3 cats and 6 chickens from her home in June 2019.

Peterson blasts White House budget cuts to farm programs

WASHINGTON (LEARFIELD)  --  Seventh District Congressman Collin Peterson is blasting cuts to farm programs in the White House's proposed 2021 budget. The chairman of the U-S House Agriculture Committee says it calls for an eight-point-two-percent reduction in discretionary spending at the U-S-D-A when the department's field operations are significantly understaffed. He says the budget also proposes billions in mandatory cuts to crop insurance, conservation spending, disaster assistance, SNAP and other programs. SMSU receives No. 1 ranking from Military Friendly Schools

MARSHALL (KMHL) – Southwest Minnesota State University has been rewarded with a No. 1 national ranking by Military Friendly School. More than 1,000 schools participated in this year’s survey, SMSU received the designation in the small public university class.
