FRIENDSHIP TOWNSHIP – A rural Hazel Run couple is recovering at home following a January 18 incident in a hog barn that initially left them unresponsive, according to the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office.
32-year-old Luke Stevens and 30-year-old Melissa Stevens were cleaning the barn when the emergency occurred. At approximately 5:15 p.m., Yellow Medicine County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting the incident. The caller, who had helped extricate the pair from the barn, was on-site when deputies and emergency responders arrived. Deputies performed life-saving measures until EMS teams took over.
The couple was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis by Life Link III and Mayo Clinic air ambulances. Both were treated and released, and they are now recovering at home.
No foul play is suspected, and the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the cause of the incident.
