REDWOOD FALLS, Minn. — The University of Minnesota will honor 86 families from across the state during the 2026 Farm Family of the Year ceremony at 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, during Minnesota Farmfest near Redwood Falls at the Gilfillan Estate’s Wick Buildings Farmfest Center.

The honorees represent a wide range of agricultural operations, including traditional crop and livestock farms, community-based ventures, and farms producing fruits, vegetables and flowers.

Families were selected by local University of Minnesota Extension committees for their commitment to supporting and strengthening agriculture in their communities.

In addition to the ceremony, Farmfest attendees can visit University of Minnesota exhibits throughout the event. University of Minnesota Extension, the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) and other programs will be at Booth 615S with resources for farmers, crop diagnostics and hands-on activities for children. The Upper Midwest Agricultural Safety and Health Center (UMASH) will feature agricultural safety activities, including a Polaris/4-H ATV exhibit at Booth 326. Staff from the West Central Research and Outreach Center (WROC) will be at Booth SR11 sharing the latest agricultural research, education and innovation.

The annual recognition highlights the diversity and innovation of Minnesota agriculture and celebrates the contributions farm families make to the state’s agricultural industry.
