WINDOM (KMHL) – Thunderstorms moved through the region Saturday morning bringing with them strong winds that caused some damage.
Wind gusts of 75 miles per hour were recorded at the Windom and Brookings airports. Several areas had winds that eclipsed 70 MPH as well and knocked down trees, branches and power lines.
The weather service says the strong winds destroyed large tents at Arnold’s Park Amusement Park and heavily damaged a grain elevator in Cantistota, South Dakota.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a strong gust of wind also knocked over a semi-truck along Highway 60 east of Heron Lake.
Authorities say both the driver and a passenger in the truck were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
