UNDATED (KMHL) – If you plan to party with your buddies over the opening of deer hunting season this weekend the Minnesota State Patrol urges you to make plans ahead of time.

Authorities are planning to have an increased DWI enforcement that will get under way this weekend to coincide with the deer hunting opener.

“For the entire deer hunting season we do have extra enforcement specifically for DWI enforcement through the two weeks of deer hunting,” said Meagher.

He says it’s about keeping people safe during times of celebrations and gatherings.

“We want everybody to have a plan before festivities happen to make sure everybody is where they can be safe to enjoy each other’s company or that they have a plan to get back home safe,” said State Patrol Lieutenant Casey Meagher.

He says its important to have a plan in place before you start drinking because alcohol can affect a person’s judgement.
