WORTHINGTON – An Elder, South Dakota man and his passenger were injured after a collision with a semi in Nobles County on Saturday, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. At approximately 4:14 Saturday morning, a 2011 Honda CXL and a 2024 Peterbilt semi were both traveling westbound on Interstate 90 near Diagonal Road in Worthington when they collided. 

The driver of the Honda, 38-year-old Mitchell Ward Conklin of Elder, South Dakota, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Sanford Worthington Hospital. The report notes alcohol was detected in Conklin’s system at the time of the crash. 

His passenger, a 9-year-old boy, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls.  

The driver of the Peterbilt, 43-year-old Mitchell Lewis Young of Redfield, South Dakota, was not injured.
