MADISON, WISCONSIN (KMHL) – Southwest Minnesota State’s Provost and Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs – Dr. Dwight Watson – is headed for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Watson was named the 17th Chancellor at the school. Watson was unanimously approved by the University Of Wisconsin Board Of Regents yesterday.
“Dwight has demonstrated an ability to build meaningful relationships and to lead faculty and staff as a provost and dean,” said US System President Ray Cross. “He is an accomplished faculty member. He is approachable and authentic, and his references repeatedly described his leadership style as collaborative and engaging.”
He has been at SMSU since 2015 and has focused on student achievement and removing barriers to success for students.
“I am inspired by UW-Whitewater’s commitment to providing its students transformational and empowering education experiences,” Watson said in a press release. “As a first-generation college attendee of modest means, I found that higher education provided me the functional, navigational skills that I needed to access future opportunities.”
He will begin his new position at UW-Whitewater on August 1st.
