NEW ULM – A scam website claiming to sell heavy machinery in Brown County has been shut down. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office announced warned online users that the website, “altfamilyfarm.com” was a scam website claiming to be based out of Evan, about 7 miles southeast of Morgan.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office says the entire website is fake, contains pictures of scenes that don’t exist in Brown County, and attempts to scam potential customers out of money through wireless transfers. When customers try to make an appointment to look at the machinery, communication is blocked by the owners of the site.
The sheriff’s office was working with the Minnesota Department of Commerce earlier this week to shut down the scam website. As of this morning, the site was inaccessible.
