MARSHALL (KMHL) – A peaceful protest is planned for downtown Marshall tomorrow afternoon.

According to a Facebook event posting, organizers say the event is planned from 6 until 8 p.m. tonight in the area of Memorial Park in downtown Marshall.

Marshall Director of Public Safety Jim Marshall said in a press release the city has an obligation to honor First Amendment protected peaceful demonstrations, but that individuals who try to interrupt with any type of violence or destruction will not be tolerated.

“The actions taken by one officer does not reflect how we train and what the badge represents,” said Marshall. “Our core values are based on honesty, integrity, fairness and there is no exception.”

Marshall said they will work closely with organizers to ensure their voices are heard and the community remains safe.
