NEW ULM (KMHL) – The bishop of the New Ulm Diocese announced that he is retiring for health reasons.
According to a press release from the diocese, Pope Francis accepted Rev. John M. LeVoir’s resignation yesterday.
Officials say LeVoir, who is 74, has been undergoing physical and psychological assessment at Sacred Heart Mercy Health Care Center in Alma, Michigan, since July. According to the press release, officials expect him to remain in Michigan until early September working on a therapy plan.
The diocese says there is no timeline set for a new bishop at this time.
