Minnesota – Starting July 30th, residents in the 507 area code, which covers southern Minnesota, will be required to dial 10 digits (area code + phone number) for local calls in the 507 region. Calls using only 7 digits will not be completed. By August 30, 2024, new phone lines may be assigned numbers with the 924 area code. 

Key Points: 

  • Current phone numbers and area codes will not change. 
  • Local calls will require 10-digit dialing. 
  • Long-distance calls will still use 1 + area code + phone number. 
  • The cost and service coverage will remain the same. 
  • Emergency and special service numbers like 911 and 988 will remain three digits. 

Customers should reprogram any devices that use 7-digit dialing, including medical alerts, fax machines, and security systems, to accommodate 10-digit dialing by July 30, 2024. Ensure all personal and business materials reflect the full 10-digit number.
