MARSHALL — The city of Marshall is moving closer to establishing local regulations for cannabis businesses. This week, the city council introduced updates to its ordinances, setting the framework for higher-potency cannabis retailers to register with the city. The proposed amendment would limit the number of these businesses to two, while retailers selling lower-potency hemp products, legalized in Minnesota in 2022, would not face such restrictions.
The amendments also update definitions for various cannabis-related businesses and align local rules with Minnesota’s state laws. In addition, they outline the registration and renewal process for cannabis retailers, ensuring compliance with local safety, fire, and zoning codes.
Further zoning regulations for cannabis businesses are expected to be addressed in future council meetings. Minnesota’s Office of Cannabis Management will begin issuing licenses for cannabis businesses on January 1.
