MARSHALL – Marshall EDA Director Lauren Deutz joined Marshall Radio on Friday to give an update on projects taking place around the city of Marshall. Deutz shared the news that a Family Dollar/Dollar is under construction now and is slated to be open soon.  “Typically, those stores go up pretty quickly, so we’ll likely see that open up this fall.” Deutz said. The co-branded Family Dollar/Dollar Tree is being constructed on East College Drive.

Construction is nearly wrapped up on the former Cenex location on East College Drive with hopes of opening by July 1st. This new building will house two relocating Marshall businesses (Domino’s & Shopko Optical) and one new business (Leading Edge Credit Union).

“One nice thing too with this new Domino’s property is they’re adding a drive-thru, so that people don’t have to go in the store to get their pizzas, and in Marshall there’s a lot of carryout.” Deutz said.

The opening of this building coincides with the demolition of the current Domino’s Pizza building which will make way for construction of a Kwik Trip convenience store. Kwik Trip has also officially announced a second location in town at the former Catoor’s location. Construction is set to start later this year on the second location. Deutz explained the reasoning why Kwik Trip wanted two locations in Marshall, “They did that to have an opportunity to have a diesel station as well as more centrally located, by having two they can spread out their services.”

Toni’s Depot is in the process of moving in to the former Mike’s Cafe building. “There’s been some questions out there if Mike’s is reopening but it’s a Toni’s Depot restaurant,” Deutz said. She said they might have some menu items from Mike’s but it will be the Toni’s Depot concept.

Deutz also gave an update on Block 100, the apartment complex in downtown Marshall. Leasing has already started and they hope to open the doors within the next month or two. There are two other phases of this project with phase two about to get underway with the 39-unit phase one nearing completion. Phase two is currently slated to have a split commercial/residential floor plan.
