MARSHALL — The Marshall City Council has approved new regulations for the sale of THC products. On Tuesday, council members voted in favor of an ordinance permitting businesses to register to sell low potency, hemp-based edibles. However, the city has imposed a moratorium on higher potency cannabis sales until January 1.

The ordinance allows for a registration system to track where these products are sold, ensuring compliance with state law. Lower potency THC products, legal in Minnesota for several years, cannot be sold to individuals under 21 and are restricted from being sold in home businesses or within 500 feet of schools. The council unanimously approved this ordinance.

Additionally, the council held a public hearing and voted to enact a moratorium on higher potency cannabis sales. This moratorium, effective until January 1, allows time for the Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management to finalize a model ordinance and begin issuing cannabis licenses. The council unanimously approved this measure as a precautionary step to align local zoning with state regulations.

No public comments were made during the hearing.
