MARSHALL — A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Thursday morning for Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Cottonwood, Pipestone, Kingsbury, and Brookings counties. Blizzard conditions are possible with total snow accumulation of 14-21 inches possible, and winds could gust as high as 50 mph.

Winds during the daytime on Tuesday are expected to remain below 20-25 mph with the potential for blizzard conditions not arriving until Wednesday. The snow fall is expected to slow down midday Wednesday, then heavier snow is expected Wednesday evening into early Thursday morning.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. The cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
