A company in Australia called Costa Berries just unveiled the largest blueberry ever grown . . . about the size of a ping pong ball. (Here’s a photo.)
A normal blueberry only weighs a gram or two. This one’s 10 to 20 times heavier than that at 20.4 grams, or just under an ounce.
They picked it in November, and it sat in a deep freezer for three months while they waited on Guinness to verify it. The old record was 16.2 grams, so this one’s 26% heavier.
They’ve been working on breeding them to be bigger, because they say there’s a lot of consumer demand for larger blueberries.
Because of that demand, it might not be long before we see an even bigger blueberry than this. The old record only stood for a little over three years.
