MARSHALL — The Lyon County Historical Society announced it received a donation from the late Mark Goodenow. Mark, a longtime Professor at Southwest Minnesota State University, former Lyon County Historical Society board member, and former Lyon County Commissioner, passed away at his winter home in Mesa, AZ on February 2, 2023. Mark had named the Lyon County Historical Society a beneficiary of his retirement accounts. A non-designated total of $37,848.58 was given to the Lyon County Historical Society.
At the July board of directors meeting, the Lyon County Historical Society board approved putting half of the funds in the LCHS Endowment account and the other half towards a future project at the museum. The release said Mark was a strong advocate of preserving local history and community improvement and the LCHS will be forever grateful for his contributions.
