Kathy Desmedt, age 84, of Tracy and formerly of Clarkfield and Marshall, Minnesota, died on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Prairie View Senior Living in Tracy, Minnesota. Funeral Services are 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 29, 2022, at Christ United Presbyterian Church in Marshall. Interment will follow in the Lynd City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 29, 2022, also at the church. Arrangements are with the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall.
Kathleen Marie Kor was born on May 5, 1938, to parents Aiko Jr and Marie (Verlinde) Kor in White, South Dakota. Kathy was raised on a farm along County Road 7 in Marshall, Minnesota. She was baptized on June 21, 1953, at the Federated Presbyterian Congregational Church and was later confirmed in the Christian faith before graduating from Marshall Senior High School with the class of 1956. On February 8, 1957, Kathy was united in marriage to Cyriel Desmedt at the Federated Church in Marshall. They moved to the Desmedt family farm two miles west of Marshall and farmed there for 63 years. They were blessed with 5 children all of whom (until recently) lived within a 30-mile radius. When she needed more assistance, Kathy moved to Boulder Estates and then to Prairie View Senior Living in Tracy. Kathy enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, and playing cards with the neighbors in her earlier years. She also enjoyed going out to eat – usually at the Hitching Post – playing Bingo and 500 Rummy. Kathy also enjoyed cooking and baking, stitching dish towels, listening to country music, and watching “Days Of Our Lives” and “Wheel of Fortune.”
Kathleen Desmedt died on Thursday, September 22, 2022. She had reached the age of 84 years, 4 months, and 17 days. Blessed be her memory.
Kathy is survived by her 5 children, Julie (Larry) Vlaminck, Barbara Dale, Patricia (Allen) Stengel, Douglas (Beth) Desmedt, Lynn (Richard) Hansen; 13 grandchildren, Lisa (Richard) Stelter, Brian (Amanda) Vlaminck, Jessica Dale (fiancé Jeff VanDyke), Jenna Dale (friend Cameron Ellingson), David (Christinea) Dahl, Katie (Timothy) Wendler, Joshua (Angela) Dahl, Matthew (Carly) Dahl, Timothy (Amanda) Stengel, Melissa (Travis) Erickson, Douglas (Brenda) Desmedt, Bryce (Miranda) Hansen, Brady Hansen; great-grandchildren, Mausten, Elle, Emalyn, Evan, Carter, Christopher, Camden, Payten, Tegen, Stephan, William , Dalton (and Kirsten), Kortnee (and Kyle), Austin, Renee, Archer, Adam, Lexi, Griffin, Parker, Makayla, Mckenzie, Kate, William, Henry; great-great-grandchildren, Huntleigh, Landry, Maverick, Kensley; 2 aunts, Marilyn Kor, Lorraine Strom; 2 sisters, Darlene Dobrenski, Madeline (Denny) Hinz; nieces, nephews, and many cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Aiko and Marie Kor; husband, Cyriel Desmedt, brothers-in-law, Jack Dobrenski, Eli Soenen; sister-in-law, Mary Louise Soenen; and several aunts and uncles.
