James “Jim” Carl Munson, age 69 of Tracy, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2023 at the Tracy Methodist Church in Tracy. Visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 22 at the Tracy Area Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Stephens Funeral Service – Tracy Area Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
James “Jim” Carl Munson was born January 25, 1954 to Virgil “Hap” and Donna (Rue) Munson in Springfield, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith. In 1972, Jim graduated from Walnut Grove High School and continued his education at Brainerd Technical School for small engine repair. He married Lori Smith and they were blessed with four children, Mandy, Ashley, Justin and Brandy. On October 16, 1993, Jim was married to Mary (Zender) Macken who brought 2 daughters, Catie and Sara, into the marriage. Jim had many jobs throughout life including: Phillip Morris Salesman, mechanic, bookkeeper, managed Savannah Oaks golf course in Lynd and most recently President of the board of directors at Tracy Country Club. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding and racing snowmobiles and motorcycles. He loved golfing and annual trips to Vegas with Mary and their friends. Jim enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Ava and Amiyah.
James is survived by his mother Donna of Walnut Grove; children: Mandy (Dustin) Doocy, Ashley (Glenn) Valek both of Blooming Prairie, Justin Munson (Allie) of Lake Crystal, Brandy (Kaleb) Jacobson of New Richland, Catie Macken of Venice, CA and Sara (Marcell) Macken of Marshall; grandchildren: Gemini, Jaspher, Harlee, Linkynn, Easton, Skylar, Sawyer, Krewden, Ava and Amiyah; siblings: Dawn Munson of Walnut Grove, Todd Munson of Lamberton and Kathy Kockelman of Walnut Grove; mother-in-law Sue Zender; siblings-in-law: John and his family, Mike and his family and Meg and her family; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his dad, brother Brad, wife Mary and father-in-law Al.
