A funeral mass for James Joseph Doom, 80 of Marshall, MN, will be held on Monday, June 19, 2023, at Holy Redeemer Church in Marshall, beginning at 2:00 p.m. A public visitation at Holy Redeemer Church will begin an hour prior to the funeral mass. Burial will take place following the funeral at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall.  The Horvath Funeral Service in Marshall is handling the arrangements.

James Joseph Doom was born on August 31, 1942, in Marshall, MN, to Joseph and Bernice (Speybroeck) Doom. He was raised in Marshall and attended Holy Redeemer Catholic School. James graduated from Central Catholic High School in the spring of 1961. Upon graduation he continued his education at Devry Technical Institute in Chicago, IL, attaining his engineering degree. He then began his career working for Boeing Aircraft Company that took him to Great Falls, MT, Rapid City, SD, and Stanley, ND. He was married to Elloise J. Morin and to this union were born five children. The couple later divorced.  On October 17, 1980, Jim was married to Karen Sullivan.  The couple lived in Marshall for 43 years.  James worked as an electrical engineer for the Schott Corporation until his retirement. He was a proud member of the Marshall Fire Department throughout the 1970’s. James was a passionate outdoorsman.  He loved to fish, hunt, camp, water ski and snowmobile. He was a skilled handyman and enjoyed tinkering and fixing things.

James died unexpectedly of a heart attack at home in Marshall on June 3, 2023.

He is survived by his wife Karen Doom, children Theresa (Bernice) Penning, Laurie (Michael) Munsterman, David (Tammy) Doom, Sherry (Dallas) Dean; grandchildren Cassandra (Wrin) Maxwell, Carrissa (Scott) Mahler, Ashley (Brian) Klein, Hope (Kyle) Munsterman, Kelsey (Tyler) Donner, Michaela Munsterman, Michael and his special friend Kayla Doom, Courtney (Dennis) Bruyere, Megan Wessels, Jonathan Wessels; and great-grandchildren Carson, Owyn, Jaylie, Brody, Brayleigh, Emmie, Waylon and Jude; step-daughter Tiffany Sturm, step-son Todd Trent; step-grandchildren Taylor Sturm and Tori Sturm; siblings Pat Miller, Judy (Charles) Michelson and Janice (James) Drietz, sister-in-law Eileen Doom, and many nieces and nephews.  James is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Bernice Doom, daughter Terry Marie Doom, grandson Matthew Doom, brother Ronald Doom, brother-in-law Jim Miller.
