Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway is in Minnesota until Sunday. The queen is visiting Minnesota to mark Norway’s strong ties with the Norwegian-American communities throughout the state. The Queen’s program includes a visit to St. Olaf College in Northfield which was founded by Norwegian immigrants in 1874.

Governor Tim Walz will meet with Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway to strengthen their long-standing partnership and celebrate the 49-year-long exchange between the Minnesota National Guard and the Norwegian Home Guard.

Queen Sonja will also commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Mindekirken in Minneapolis. Mindekirken is also known as the Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church –  It was established in 1922 by the Norwegian Lutheran Church of America and is one of only two churches in the U.S. that still conducts services in Norwegian.
