WOOD LAKE — On October 17th, at 16:08, the Wood Lake Fire Department responded to a fast-spreading field fire north of Wood Lake. Strong winds (28 mph, with gusts up to 46 mph) and dry conditions fueled the fire, threatening nearby homes. Mutual aid was quickly called in from neighboring towns, and local farmers assisted by plowing fields to create firebreaks.

After 4.5 hours of firefighting, a drone with thermal imaging was deployed to identify hotspots. The final unit cleared the scene at 20:55. The operation involved 12 fire departments, four ambulance squads, and 11 local farmers. Their swift efforts helped prevent further damage.
