GERMANTOWN TWP — A fatal crash involving two vehicles was reported Friday afternoon in Germantown Township, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The incident occurred at about 4:42 p.m. on Friday afternoon near the intersection of Highway 71 and 240th Street, between Sanborn and Windom. Authorities say a 2016 GMC Terrain traveling northbound  on Highway 71 collided head-on with a southbound 2019 Ford Transit van.

The state patrol has classified the crash as fatal but has not confirmed the number of people killed or released any names.

The SUV was driven by a 67-year-old man from Springfield. The van was driven by a 42-year-old man from Lakefield and carried multiple passengers. The conditions of those involved have not been released.

Road conditions were reported as dry at the time of the crash.

Assistance was provided by the Cottonwood and Redwood County Sheriff’s Offices, Sanborn Fire Department, and North Air Care. Ambulance service was provided from Windom, Lamberton, Westbrook, and Springfield.
