Southwest Minnesota State University will host a screening of the Luis Arguenta documentary film “The U Turn: A Transformational Journey” on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. in the Conference Center, lower level. There will be a question-and-answer session with Arguenta after the screening. Argueta is a film director and producer who has been telling transnational immigrant stories since 1977. The 30th annual University Gala will be held on Friday, Oct. 11 from 6 p.m.-midnight in the R/A Facility on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University. This year’s decorating theme is Emerald, to mark the emerald anniversary of the event. The University Gala has been a major fundraiser since its inception in 1989. Proceeds from the event fund scholarships for SMSU students. To date, $900,000 has been raised, and 1,450 scholarships awarded.
