Evelyn E. Zick, age 100, of Morgan, MN, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Gil-Mor Manor Nursing Home in Morgan. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Morgan United Methodist Church in Morgan, with burial to follow in the St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery. A visitation we be on Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church in Morgan. The Nelson-Hillestad Funeral and Cremation Service of Redwood Falls and Morgan are in charge of the arrangements.
Evelyn Edna Zick, daughter of Julius and Hulda (Gallow) Reinke, was born on January 30, 1924 in Big Stone, South Dakota. Evelyn was baptized on February 24, 1924 and confirmed June 5, 1938 in Correll, Minnesota. On March 29, 1941, Evelyn married Arnold Zick in Appleton, Minnesota. They built a beautiful life together residing in Appleton, MN and various other locations including Correll, MN and Springfield, MN before settling down in Morgan, MN. Evelyn had a fulfilling career as a farmer and also worked for 26 years at Del Monte in Sleepy Eye, MN. She retired in 1980 and moved to Morgan, MN. Throughout her life, Evelyn enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests. She cherished her time at Senior Dining in Morgan and loved playing cards. Evelyn also found joy in quilting, baking, and cooking. She was known for her delicious dill pickles which she would lovingly send to her grandchildren. Evelyn’s warm heart led her to cherish the time spent visiting children, grandkids, and friends. She was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Morgan where she actively participated in various roles. Evelyn served as a Sunday School Teacher. She dedicated herself to volunteering as part of the Church Circle and Bible studies. Additionally, Evelyn took on responsibilities such as being the Funeral Coordinator and Custodian for St. John’s for three years. Her devotion to her faith was evident through her daily reading of the Bible.
Evelyn is survived by her loving children: Betty (Terry) Potter of West Fargo, North Dakota, Gary (Melanie) Zick of Grestvew, Florida and Linda (Gary) Madsen of New Ulm, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Darlene (Jim) Vaala of Madison, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Hulda; husband, Arnold; one brother, In Infancy; sisters, Emma, Hildegarde Jagow and Dorothy Borstad; grandson, Todd Zick; 3 brothers-in-law and special friend Dick.
