Evelyn Clarice Pagel was born on June 2, 1934, at her grandparents’ home near Tracy, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Verner and Lula (Schnoor) Pagel. Evie grew up near Amiret and she was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Tracy, Minnesota. She attended school through the 8th grade in Amiret before going to high school in Tracy. Evelyn worked various jobs, but it was her love for children that caused her to respond to an ad for a recent widower that needed some help watching his young children.  It soon became clear that Mr. Ray Hively and Evie were a perfect fit, and the couple was married on August 13, 1955, at the Amiret Methodist Church. Immediately the couple adopted the children to become a family of six and soon added two more to the growing family. The family lived on a farm in Lyons Township before moving to a farm north of Balaton. Evie spent many years as a CNA and Hospice nurse at several locations including Benson, Willmar, Minnetonka, and Balaton.  Evie was a proud life-long member of the VFW auxiliary, American Legion auxiliary, and Disabled American Veterans auxiliary. Her other enjoyments in life included dancing, knitting, playing bingo, crocheting baby Afghans, listening to music, and her flowers. She always had a particular fondness for children, especially babies, and had a true calling to care for others, especially when they were sick. Evelyn cherished the time spent with her family, and they would often be found playing cards together – especially games like Pepper or Hand and Foot. Evie stayed active in church and noted that she prayed for her family regularly.

Evelyn Hively died peacefully on Thursday, April 6, 2023. She had reached the age of 88 years,10 months, and 5 days. Blessed be her memory.
