The new version of “Jolene” is out and taking over the airwaves. And while Dolly sung, “I’m begging of you please don’t take my main” . . . Beyoncé took a little more direct route with, quote, “I’m warning you, don’t come for my man.”
And for those that haven’t heard it, Beyoncé pretty much rewrote the rest of the song, too. So, it was really awesome when the new version of “Jolene” came out to see Dolly Parton still credited as the SOLE songwriter.
The medley is the same as the original, so that could be it . . . but you gotta think that this turned out to be a VERY lucrative decision for Dolly. And Beyoncé is listed as the performer and the producer on the track, so she’ll do OK too.
Glad she gave Dolly her “flowers” though. Classy move.
