MARSHALL – The Application deadline for state park youth hunts are approaching. The deadline to apply for the special hunts is August 18th. Hunters aged 12-15 can apply. Area State Parks holding special hunts include Camden, Blue Mounds, Lake Shetek, Kilen Woods, and Sibley.

“Too many of one animal or plant species in an area can start to throw off the balance of other species in that area,” said Bill Dinesen, Camden State Park supervisor. “When there are too many deer in a park, they feed too much on certain trees and native plants, so occasionally we allow deer hunts as a way to protect natural resources and bring the deer population back into better balance.”

Interested youth hunters must apply for a special lottery by August 18th at any ELS license vendor or online at http://mndnr.gov/buyalicense
