MARSHALL, MN — Court records filed in Lyon County District Court provide additional details in a case involving a Marshall man whose arrest has recently drawn attention online.
A video circulating on YouTube from the channel “We The People U” alleges officers with the Marshall Police Department planted drug evidence outside an apartment prior to obtaining a search warrant. The video analyzes body camera footage and claims officers placed methamphetamine residue on a door handle at the apartment of Dante Maurice Stidman.
According to court documents, Stidman, 47, was already under investigation by the Brown-Lyon-Redwood-Renville Drug Task Force for suspected methamphetamine sales in the Marshall area beginning in 2025. Investigators cited information from a confidential informant, surveillance, and text messages they said were consistent with drug transactions.
Authorities executed a search warrant at Stidman’s apartment on Jan. 14, 2026. Officers reported hearing movement inside before Stidman eventually opened the door and was detained.
During the search, investigators reported finding a plastic bag with methamphetamine residue and water in the kitchen along with a digital scale. Officers also reported discovering a crystal substance in the toilet. According to the complaint, the water tested positive for methamphetamine.
Investigators collected remaining crystal material from the toilet weighing about 41 grams. The complaint states the total methamphetamine mixture recovered from the toilet bowl weighed approximately 4,992 grams, about 11 pounds, 7 ounces, including the container used to collect it.
Stidman is charged with first-degree possession of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and third-degree possession of methamphetamine in a public housing zone. The apartment is located in Parkview Apartments, which is operated by the Public Housing Commission of the City of Marshall.
The allegations made in the YouTube video have not been independently verified, and the court filings do not address the claims that evidence was planted. The case remains pending in Lyon County District Court.
