BROOKINGS, SOUTH DAKOTA (KMHL) – Big news for the Brookings area! The city of Brookings will receive a federal grant that will pay for a large portion of a third Interstate 29 interchange in that community.

The $18.7 million dollar grant comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development Grant program. The plan is to construct a new interchange where I-29 intersects with 20th Street in Brookings.

The project will also include $2 million from Brookings County and at least $700,000 from private sources.
