MARSHALL — $300 million was distributed to area counties, cities, tribal governments and townships this week as part of a one-time appropriation for public safety aid. According to the Minnesota Department of Revenue, the city of Marshall is set to receive $595,928 while Lyon County was allocated $410,980.
70% of the $300 million was sent to cities and townships, while 30% was allocated to counties and tribal governments. The amounts were determined by population. The money can be used for a wide range of things including training, mental health, or purchasing new equipment. However, spending the money on armored vehicles or tear gas or constructing or remodeling police stations will not be allowed.
