WORTHINGTON (KMHL) – A ruling from the state appeals court says a southwest Minnesota sheriff’s office can’t hold jail inmates in custody for immigration officials after the inmates are eligible for release in state cases.
The ruling from the Minnesota Court of Appeals sides with the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota in its lawsuit against the Nobles County Sheriff’s Office.
ICE “detainers” had been requesting local officials hold those individuals in jail until federal officers could pick them up.
