Mass of Christian Burial for Alfred “Al” Bendel, 82, of Marshall will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. A walk through visitation will take place on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. Masks are required at all indoor events and social distancing guidelines will be followed at all times. Interment will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall.  The Horvath Funeral Service in Marshall is handling the arrangements.

Alfred Lawrence “Al” Bendel was born on April 29, 1938, in Madison, MN to Henry and Alice (Roth) Bendel. He grew up in Madison and graduated from Madison High School. Al served in the U.S. National Guard from 1954 – 1967, earning the rank of Staff Sargeant. He worked servicing telephone equipment for Northwestern Bell, US West and later Quest. Al enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, gardening, mowing and tending to his yard. He had a lifelong appreciation for music and played in bands in his younger years. Al also enjoyed his hobby farm and calf operation. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and volunteered at the Thrift Shop and Food Shelf.
Al died on Thursday, November 26, 2020, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall.

He is survived by his children Douglas Bendel of Granite Falls, Belinda (and Michael) Jepsen of Aberdeen, SD, Jacob (and Jennifer) Bendel of Las Vegas, NV, Christina (and Donavon) Bensen of Owatonna, MN, Shelly (and Tom) Versaevel of Marshall, daughter-in-law Teresa Bendel, numerous beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brother Glen Bendel of Mobile, AL, sister-in-law Betty, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sons Daniel and Brian, brother Gerald and sister-in-law Glenice, sisters Marilyn and Sister Mary Phyllis, brother Eugene, and sister-in-law Judy.
