MENDOTA HEIGHTS – The Minnesota State Patrol will honor troopers, public servants, and residents who demonstrated extraordinary bravery and commitment to public safety over the past year. The ceremony, set for 1 p.m. this afternoon (Thursday) at Mendakota Country Club, will recognize acts of heroism that exemplify the agency’s core values of respect, integrity, courage, honor, and excellence.
Among those being honored are:
- Two individuals who assisted a man struck by a vehicle while operating his riding lawnmower. The crash victim is expected to attend.
- Bystanders and a Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) FIRST employee who rescued a man from a burning SUV on Interstate 94 in St. Paul last spring. The crash victim is also expected to attend.
- A man who braved icy waters in Rogers to save a driver who had crashed into a river.
- A State Patrol sergeant and local residents who rescued a driver trapped in a fiery crash on Interstate 35W in Roseville.
- A trooper who successfully stopped a runaway SUV traveling over 100 mph with a teenager behind the wheel in Clay County.
Additionally, the State Patrol will present major awards, including Trooper of the Year, the Eagle Squadron Award for the most DWI arrests, and the Leadership Award.
