MARSHALL (KMHL) – Nurses in Marshall are planning an informational picket at Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center next Thursday.
A letter from the Minnesota Nurses Association to the hospital says nurses are planning the picket from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
In a message to Marshal Radio, nurses say Avera’s recent restructuring at the hospital and clinic is putting patients and the community at risk. Nurses add they want proper training for their jobs and safe patient care ahead of “any kind of profit.”
“We respect our MNA-represented employees’ right to speak out on issues of importance to them,” said Avera Marshall Regional President and CEO Mary Maertens in a statement. “While we disagree with their position in this instance, we will never lose sight of the larger reality that our nurses are skilled professionals who are an essential part of the care we provide.”
Nurses say the picketing will take place on public property adjacent to all entrances and access to the hospital.
