Mass of Christian Burial for Wayne Thomas Skorczewski, 74, of Minneota will take place Friday, January 26th at St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota beginning at 10:00 a.m. A public visitation will be held on Thursday, January 25th at St. Edward from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday morning at St. Edward beginning at 9:00 a.m. A funeral luncheon will be held at church following the funeral mass. Burial will take place at a later date.  The Horvath Funeral Service in Minneota is handling the arrangements.

Wayne Thomas Skorczewski was born on December 11, 1949, to Alvin and Lydia (Dastych) Skorczewski in Canby, MN.  He grew up on a farm outside of Ivanhoe, MN. He attended school in Ivanhoe and graduated from Ivanhoe High School in the spring of 1968. Upon graduation he continued his education at Granite Falls VoTech attaining his degree Data Processing. Wayne was then drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in Hawaii during the Vietnam War.  Wayne met the love of his life Gloria Miklos in early 1972. The couple was married on June 24, 1972 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairfax, MN. They started their family in New Ulm, MN until moving to Marshall, MN in 1977.  Wayne worked as Semi driver for 42 years for J&R Schugel out of New Ulm for many years until a brief stint with Schwans before returning and retiring with J&R Schugel in 2015. During his career Wayne trucked for 5 million miles throughout the United States. Upon retirement he began driving bus for the Marshall School District and Southwest Coaches.  Wayne enjoyed tropical vacations with his wife Gloria. He was an avid Minnesota sports fan and could often be caught listening to the Twins on the radio or cheering on the Vikings. He loved tinkering in his garage where there was a space for every thing, and every thing in its space. The garage became his favorite 4 o’clock happy hour spot. Wayne’s family was the most important thing in his life and he could often be found at his grandchildren’s activities.

Wayne died on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at his residence in Minneota.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Gloria Skorczewski; children Holly (Jon) Buck, Amy Herigon-Jeremiason (Brian Jeremiason), Tom (Tara) Skorczewski; 16 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren with 1 on the way; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  Wayne is preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Lydia Skorczewski; sisters Linda, Jody; brother Gary; mother and father-in-law Loy and Lucille Miklos; four brothers-in-law; son-in-law Bret Herigon; nephew Bradley Bollinger.
