Vonnie Gossen, age 87, of Canby, MN passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 12th at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Canby, MN. Visitation will be Sunday, February 11th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. at Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby, MN and will resume Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel of Canby, MN is entrusted with arrangements.

Yvonne “Vonnie” Gossen was born September 17, 1936 in Canby, MN to Glenn and Clara (Jemmings) Cleveland. She was raised in the Canby area and attended District 66 country school through the 8th grade. She graduated from Canby High School in 1954 and began working as a bookkeeper at the Canby Farmers Co-op.  Vonnie was united in marriage to Donald Gossen on February 6, 1965 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Canby, MN. Vonnie and Don lived near Porter, MN before moving to Minneota, MN where she worked for the Farmer’s Co-Op for 13 years. In 1978, Vonnie and Don moved to McGregor, MN where they lived and worked for 31 years. After retirement they moved back to Canby, MN.  Don passed away on November 15, 2015. Vonnie remained in her home until her health required more care. She entered the Sylvan Court Nursing Home in July of 2023 where she passed on February 6, 2024 – the 59th anniversary of her and Don’s marriage.  Vonnie was an active member of the church in every place she lived. She served as a member of the CCW at Holy Family Catholic Church in McGregor, MN and at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Canby, MN. She enjoyed traveling and collected spoons from all the places she visited. Vonnie will be remembered for her strong faith, her ever-present smile, and her meticulous housekeeping.

She is survived by her siblings: Jim (Cynthia) Cleveland, Lloyd (Lani) Cleveland, Howard (Cathy) Cleveland, and Jerry (Karen) Cleveland; members of the Gossen family; and many beloved nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Gossen; and her parents, Glenn and Clara Cleveland.
