Virgil Franklin Dammann was born on August 19, 1930, to Albert and Bertha (Denekas) Dammann in George, Iowa. Following his birth, the family moved to Ruthton, Minnesota. Virgil graduated from Ruthton High School. Virgil married Delores Schwebach on October 10, 1959. Virgil was drafted into the United States Navy, serving in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged. He then continued to live on the family farm. The couple was blessed with three children before moving to California in the early ‘60s where he worked as an electrician. Virgil and Delores welcomed four more children into their family. In 1993, the couple moved to Delavan, Minnesota. On February 11, 2008, he lost his wife, Delores. He continued to live at home. Virgil died peacefully on Sunday, March 8, 2020, at the United Hospital District in Blue Earth, Minnesota at the age of 89 years.

He is remembered by six children, Allen (Carolyn), Dean (Amy), Debra (Mark) Herndon, Mark (Tina), Tammy, and Albert (Jessica); 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores; daughter, Sandra; parents, Albert and Bertha Dammann; parents in-law, William and Mildred Schwebach; sister and brother-in-law, Viola and Paul Kittleson; sister and brother-in-law, Magdalene and Clare Peterson; and sisters-in-law, Barbara and Tammy Schwebach.
