Mass of Christian Burial for Vincent “Vince” Stoks, 89, of Marshall, formerly of Cottonwood will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cottonwood. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with a CCW Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Parish Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. Visitation will continue on Friday, one hour prior to the service, 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cottonwood. Interment will take place at St. Clotilde Catholic Cemetery in Green Valley. The Horvath Funeral Service in Marshall is handling the arrangements.
Vincent John Stoks was born on August 7, 1934, in Clifton Township near Dudley, MN, to William and Madeleine (Tramasseur) Stoks. At age six, he moved with his family to a farm near Porter. He graduated from eighth grade at District 77 Country School. On November 7, 1956, he was united in marriage to La Vonne VanKeulen. The couple lived in Marshall for a time when Vince managed the Western Oil Fuel Station in Marshall. In 1967, they moved to Cottonwood and purchased the Coast to Coast store. After five years, they sold the store and Vincent went to work for the Cottonwood Co-op where he worked until retirement in 2000. After retirement, he continued working at various jobs around Cottonwood. Vince was very much a family man. He was a caring husband, father and grandfather. He especially enjoyed the babies. He enjoyed raising horses when his kids were young. He also enjoyed hunting with his son, Steven, and his grandsons. He was a bit of a prankster and had a great sense of humor. Vincent was a hard worker and was very involved with his community. He was a member of the Cottonwood Ambulance and Fire Department. He was also very involved with St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cottonwood where he served on Church Council and was a CCD Teacher. He enjoyed woodworking and created many items for the church and his family. He also enjoyed participating in the Hanley Falls Threshing Show. In 2015, Vincent and La Vonne moved to Boulder States in Marshall. Since 2020, he has been a resident at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall.
Vince died on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. He is survived by his wife, La Vonne, of Marshall, daughters Diane (Dave) Schwerin of Wood Lake, Shannon (Chris) Martinson of Fridley, Nancy (Jon) Busack of Echo, daughter-in-law Linda Stoks of Hoyt Lakes, 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, sister Dorothy Cull, in-laws Rita Stoks, Francis Van Hecke and Jeanette Stoks, and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Steven Stoks, siblings Henry (Marie), Donald, Harold (Madonna), Margaret (Lawrence) Cull, Frances (Cyril) Vanden Broecke, Mary Van Hecke, Richard Stoks, William Stoks, Lorraine Coquyt-Goblish, and brother-in-law Tom Cull.
