Granite Falls (KMHL) – On Monday evening law enforcement was notified of a possible domestic dispute in the parking lot at Prairies Edge Casino Resort. During the investigation, officers determined that a 31-year-old female victim from Willmar and her 41 – year-old boyfriend from Morton were the ones involved in a physical domestic dispute in the parking lot. According to the victim, the suspect threatened her with the gun then panicked when he saw officers approaching. He then forced the victim into a vehicle and drove from the scene. While they were traveling the victim was shot in the leg.

Multiple Officers from several jurisdictions quickly responded to the incident. A regionwide alert was put out to locate the suspect vehicle as well as the identified suspect individual. Local officers located the unoccupied vehicle within minutes of the incident at a residence in the city of Granite Falls. At approximately 3 AM the suspect male and another female individual were located within the city of Granite Falls and taken into custody without incident. The weapon believed to be used in the incident was recovered. The suspect vehicle was recovered and processed for evidence. The male party was arrested and transported to the Yellow Medicine County jail and is currently being held pending multiple felony charges. The victim was transported from Avera Granite Falls Hospital to Hennepin County Medical Center for further treatment but is in stable condition.

The case remains open and active and additional charges are pending. The Upper Sioux Police Department was assisted by the Granite Falls Police Department and the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Department.
