Playing Haydn For the Angel Of Death Screening

Cultures on the Prairie

Everybody's welcome to this two day event called Cultures on the Prairie. on Monday, February 13th from 1pm-5pm you can experience the "killing fields" simulation which will be a real life simulation of what refugee families endured during times of the war. The day after which would be Tuesday, February 14th from 8:30am-4pm the topics/events will be Diversity in the workplace, school, and community. Author Jim Heynen to Read Feb. 26 at SMSU

Author Jim Heynen will read from his work at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26 in Charter Hall 201 on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University. His appearance, sponsored by the Creative Writing Program, is part of the Visiting Writers Series at SMSU. Heynen is best known for his short stories. Many of these stories have been broadcast on NRP’s “All Things Considered,” and Minnesota astronaut George Pinky Nelson took a recording of Heynen’s stories for bedtime listening on his last space mission. SMSU Farm Outlook & Education Seminar February 12 at SMSU

The 36th annual Farm Outlook & Education Seminar will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12 from 9 a.m.-2:45 p.m. in the Conference Center Ballroom on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University. The Farm Outlook & Education Seminar is a scholarship fundraiser for students in SMSU’s agriculture programs. Three speakers with broad agriculture backgrounds will highlight the event. They will share their expertise on a number of ag-related topics, including relieving farm stress; growth, cultivation and marketing of industrial hemp; and analysis of current grain and livestock market conditions. Marlene Jezierski to Read From Book About Her Late Brother Michael Bjerkesett

Marlene Jezierski, sister of the late SMSU alumnus and disability advocate Michael Bjerkesett, will read from her book about his life on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at noon in the William Whipple Gallery, located in the McFarland Library at SMSU. The book, which is self-published, is entitled “When Your Legs are Wheels.” Bjerkesett was a pioneer of handicap accessible housing and a 1971 Charter Class alumnus. Brass-a-Palooza

The Southwest Minnesota State University Music Program will host “Brass-a-Palooza” on Saturday, Feb. 1 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on the campus of SMSU. The event is a celebration of brass music and learning and is open to all area brass players, regardless of age, experience or ability. Brass-a-Polooza will feature guest artist Mark Hetzler, along with his innovative band Mr. Chair. MLK Commemoration Program Jan. 20 at SMSU

Southwest Minnesota State University will commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, Jan. 20 with an event entitled “Now is the Needed Time,” from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Charter Hall 201 on campus. The event will feature the Twin Cities Gospel Choir, keynote speaker Leslie-Burl McLemore and a local children’s choir. The multi-cultural group Twin Cities Gospel Choir started in 1990 with its first-place win at the Minnesota State Fair. SMSU Theatre Celebrates the Holidays With The 1940’s Radio Hour

Just in time for the holidays, SMSU Theatre presents The 1940’s Radio Hour by Walton Jones, with music by various composers. The show transports the audience to December 1942 as radio station WOV broadcasts its holiday variety show. The performance features live sound effects, humorous 1940s radio ads, and classic songs such as "Blue Moon," "Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy," and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” with music provided by the SMSU Jazz Ensemble.
