BIRD ISLAND — Two people are dead after a two-vehicle collision on Saturday morning in Renville County, according to the Renville County Sheriff’s Office. At approximately 9:51 Saturday morning, a 1999 Mack 600 Tractor Truck was traveling southbound on County Road 5 and a 2011 Nissan Altima was traveling eastbound on County Road 4 when the vehicles collided in the intersection.
Both vehicles were located off the roadway with significant damage.
The driver of the Mack, 62-year-old Dean Schroeder of Renville, died from injuries sustained in the accident.
The driver of the Nissan, 22-year-old Emily Didier of Lanesboro, died from injuries sustained in the accident.
There were no passengers in either vehicle, with the exception of a dog in Ms. Didier’s vehicle. The dog survived with unknown or no apparent significant injuries and was released to family members.
Assistance was provided by the MN State Patrol, Bird Island Fire, Bird Island MRU, Olivia Ambulance, Olivia Fire, Olivia Tactical Response Team, Kandiyohi Tactical Response Team, and the Renville County Highway Department.
