A CEO from Harvard Business School came up with three phrases that can instantly kill your chances in a job interview. If you’re on the job hunt, avoid saying these things . . .
1. “I want to start my own business someday.” You THINK it makes you sound like you’ve got big goals for the future, but it can come across like you’re planning your exit before you even get your foot in the door. Most companies don’t want to take a chance on someone who might split after a year or two.
2. “I value work-life balance.” Well, yeah, most people do. But if you say it’s one of your top priorities, it could come across like you’re not motivated to work hard. Instead, try saying something like: “I care about well-being, but I’m most driven by growth and being part of a high-performing team.”
3. “I was let go as part of my company’s recent layoffs.” It might be true, but managers know that with some layoffs, companies can take top performers and reassign them somewhere else in the company. And they’ll be wondering why that didn’t happen to you.
