APPLETON, MN — Multiple law enforcement agencies are responding to an active situation in Appleton after reports of gunfire near Reuss Avenue.

According to the Swift County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Appleton police were called to 130 Reuss Avenue for a report of gunshots. Authorities say two suspects are barricaded inside a vehicle in a wooded area near railroad tracks by the Reuss Avenue viaduct.

Officials are asking the public to avoid the area shortly as several agencies, including a SWAT team, respond to the incident.

Nearby businesses were placed on alert, and Appleton Area Health went into lockdown due to what officials described as an ongoing threat. City leaders also closed the town’s Civic Center, library, and other municipal buildings as a precaution.

Authorities emphasized that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is not involved in the incident.
