Susan Marie (Metz) Edwards was born on October 15, 1948, in Slayton, to Walter and Deloris “Tootie” (Molitor) Metz. She grew up in Slayton and graduated from Slayton High School. She then attended Canby Vo-Tech for training as a typist and stenographer. On August 28, 1971, Susan married Gerald “Jerry” Edwards at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Susan worked at the Marshall Independent for many years, editing, proofreading, and putting together their special editions such as cookbooks. She later worked as a paraprofessional and volunteer reader for the Milroy School. Susan loved people, whether it be helping people through Red Cross blood drives, talking to friends and strangers, or making new friends at her assisted living facility. She loved children, especially her “steppy grandchildren” and her honorary service dog, Wilma. She enjoyed time spent with her Tuesday morning coffee group and her birthday club. She also enjoyed birdwatching, singing, playing Bunco, and cracking jokes. Susan and Jerry loved traveling together, as well as watching the Minnesota Twins and Milroy Yankees. Susan had nicknames for everyone and everything.
Susan died on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the United Health Hospital in St. Paul. She is survived by her brother John Metz and sister Robin Metz; special friends Tom Wurscher, Heather Wurscher, Brock (Jessie) Wurscher and their children Jax and Braxton, Jessica (Josh) Gronli and their children Jaelyn, John, and Jocelyn, Greg and Jodie Heuring, Alyssa Kent, Kristina Kent, and Wilma; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry Edwards, brothers Larry and Dan Metz, and sister-in-law Nelda Metz.
