(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota is experiencing an increase in mushroom exposures that are causing illness. Since April, the Minnesota Regional Poison Center has received 90 calls about potential exposures, compared to 26 calls during the same period last year. Many common mushrooms found in backyards can be harmful to both pets and humans. While most cases have been mild, officials warn that ingesting toxic mushrooms can require immediate medical care, even if symptoms are not immediately apparent. If you suspect someone has consumed a wild mushroom, it is advised to call the Minnesota Regional Poison Center at 1-800-222-1222.
