ST. PAUL (LEARFIELD) — Minnesota legislative leaders say they are close to an agreement on a public construction package and a tax bill. Governor Tim Walz called lawmakers back to the Capitol for a special session that started Monday.
Observers say discussion continued on a compromise measure on police accountability. Both sides say there has been progress, but it isn’t clear if they are close enough to reach a final agreement during the current special session.
Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka cites a ban on chokeholds and giving police officers the duty to intervene when a fellow officer is using excessive force as issues where they are near agreement.
