Marshall, Minn. – The sixth annual SMSU Agronomy Field Day is scheduled for Friday, July 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Jon Knochenmus Center for Innovation and SMSU Agronomy Field Trials Farm site, on the north edge of Marshall.
The event will feature lunch, tours, and presentations on SMSU field-trial research and related projects. Highlights include:
- Welcome: Dr. Raphael Onyeaghala, Dean of the College of Business, Education, and Professional Studies
- SMSU Field Trials and Internships: Dr. Adam Alford, Agronomy Associate Professor, and intern Dante Fertig
- Edamame Development: Dr. Soma Mukherjee, Culinology Assistant Professor
- Soybean Aphid Impact: Andrew Lueck, Next Gen Ag Researcher and Consultant
- MN Soybean Research: Dr. David Kee, Director of Research for MN Soybean Research & Promotion Council
- Hemp Erosion Control: Matthew Leiphon, AURI Project Manager
- Sustainability Initiatives: Dr. Marsha Rose-Grimes, SMSU Enactus Advisor, and student Sam Lund
- Meet the 2024 Ralco/SMSU Ag Interns: Nankling Andrew, Clara Bader, Micah Greenfield, Whitney Bruns, Reagan Barnett, and Owen Knochenmus, under the advisement of Dr. Tony Greenfield, Biology Professor
“The SMSU Agronomy Field Day is a way to connect with the community and local producers,” said Dr. Gerald Toland, Professor and Chair of the Agriculture, Culinology, and Hospitality Management Department. “It’s a great outreach opportunity to let them see the hands-on research in a real-world setting that prepares our students for careers in agriculture.”
