Sig D. Armitage, age 81, of Canby, MN passed away Saturday, January 4, 2020 in the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Canby, MN. Burial will be in the Canby City Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 – 7 pm with a 7 pm Prayer Service on Tuesday, January 7th at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby, MN.

Sig was born on September 21st, 1938 to Harrison and Ethel Armitage in California. In 1964, Sig married the love of his life Joan Hanzlik. They celebrated 56 years of blessed marriage.
Sig was a family man who was dearly loved in his community and family. Growing up he loved to farm with his father and brother. Sig and Joan had three children Teresa, Mikel, and Jason. As a family, they travelled extensively with a Viking’s bus, which gave the children lots of good memories. His family adventures led him into driving a school bus over thirty years. Sig enjoyed the children and vice versa. For years to come, the children would acknowledge him and bring up their memories with him. He also delivered utility trucks and drove tour bus throughout the United States. He enjoyed driving, traveling, playing cards, and four years of competing in Ragbrai across Iowa. He also competed in dart league, bowling, softball, and horseshoe for numerous years. He was an avid autograph collection and coin collector. Sig was well known for his painting around town, pumpkin painting, and painting signs.

Sig is survived by his wife, Joan of fifty-years. Daughter Teresa Menk (TJ) of Sun Tan Valley, AZ, Son Mikel (Tammy) Armitage of Oklahoma, Son Jason Armitage of Gaylord, MN. Grandchildren; Levi (Michelle) Menk of Eau Claire, WI, Trevor (Zanet) Menk of TX, Cody (Angie) Boetel of Sioux Falls, SD, Trent Armitage (Courtney Johnson) of Sioux Falls, SD, Taylor(AJ) Kor of Clear Lake, SD, Jake(Sydney) Boetel of Sioux Falls, SD, and Harley Jo Armitage of Gaylord, MN. Great-Grandchildren; Bentlee and Kira Kor, Emma Menk, Lakon and Weston Boetel, Kirsten and Kaden Miller, Ellie Dawkins. Sig was survived by his mother-in-law Jean Hanzlik, two sister-in-laws Diane (Al) Solting, Lois Teigland and many nieces and nephews. Sig was proceeded in death by his four older siblings; Evelyn, Ralph, Harriet, and Gerald.
